Artists Who Inspire

Peter Cunningham

Peter is a nimble conversationalist whose visual dissertations nudge, cajole and provoke thought. He and I go way back to Sullivan Street and the cobblestones of Gansevoort. That’s where our imaginations often collaborated. Peter was the photographer of choice for so many legends—the rock stars, theatrical performers and impossible personalities. When we met, the first thing I noticed about him was his quiet. His still presence was ephemeral and yet, very tangible. Needless to say, we became fast friends. He’s a non-judgemental witness to life as we know it. Being a huge fan of his eccentricities (as he is of mine), adapting his chapter on Mortality from The Land of the Living, a photo-mythology, seemed like the perfect story to launch Bevival’s newest spotlight about creative expression. -CM
